The first reaction I had to the site, Partnership for the 21st Century was WOW!!!! I was surprised to see a site devoted to helping students and teachers accommodate this fast growing technology age in the 21st Century. The site provides many implementations of technology into the classroom. Many teachers are sometimes nervous when utilizing new technologies with their students and this site gives teachers a new insight along with lessons/tools on how to effectively integrate technology into the classroom.
One thing I was disappointed with was the fact that my state of South Carolina was not in partnership with P21. I felt that if the site was to promote technology into the classroom across the country then every state should be taking part in this. In order to prepare students for this global economy then everyone needs to step up and do whatever it takes for our students.
I feel as a teacher, I have integrated technology in my classroom effectively, but I know there is more that I need to do to meet the needs of my students to prepare them for this fast growing world of technology. I need to focus more on the idea of technology as a learning tool for the standards I teach, rather than as a way of finalizing a project-based assessment or research tool. Students need to be able to utilize technology in a way for them to survive in the 21st Century.

Blogging in the Fifth Grade
Blogging is a new thing for me. So far, I am enjoying learning about how to navigate my way through. However, I am still learning. As I have embarked on this world of blogging, I have been brainstorming ideas of how to incorporate blogging into my fifth grade Math and Science class. One idea I have is to use the "Problem of the Day." The math problem would be a multi step problem and once students finished their problem, they would summarize the steps of how they solved it and explain how this type of problem solving is important in society. Another way I would utilize my blog is by creating a science scenario or experiment for students to test. My students would use the scientific method to complete the experiment and write a reflection on the blog. These are just a few ideas that I have thought of and I know there are many more ways I can use a blog for my students. I would love to hear from others to help me utilize a blog to its fullest potential and help my studnets gain the rewarding benefits of blogging.

Blogging in the Classroom
I hope everyone is off to a wonderful New Year and in back to work mode with your students. I am very new at blogging and I am still learning as I go along. With that being said, as I have been doing some research I have found many classrooms that have set up their own blogs! WOW!!!! I find this absolutely amazing. This is something I would love to do because I always love breaking out my classroom laptops and watching my students eyes beam with excitement. However, I have a problem. My district is very strict with what we have access too. In other words, I cannot even access my blog at work! :0( So, I would love any ideas you may have that I may be able to use, gain access too, or even be able to persuade the district personnel to allow me to incorporate. Any of your suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
Again Happy 2011 and I hope everyone has a great 2nd semester!
Sincerely,
Kim Jordan
