  1. I live and work as a teacher in South Carolina and we have been hit hard financially. The district I work in is the leader in the unemployment rate in our state and the schools are suffering due to the fact. This year I was forced to furlough five days to help with balancing the budget. Our insurance went up to help with the situation as well...with that being said...no pay increase...more like a cut. I was lucky I guess to continue to have a job. Rumor has it that next year we will be furloughing ten days to help with the budget. What are we suppose to do? Teachers cannot continue to afford to work with the salary if we continue to take cuts and our precious students are suffering because days where they should be in school is taken away to help with the budget. Something needs to be done. Our future is the students in our classrooms...we will be depending on them sooner rather than later, but with all the cuts in education...are we preparing them the way they deserve?
